Can Antibiotics Be Taken To Cure Recurring Cough?

Good day Doc, I have a cough for 1 month. i took lagundi leaf(Plemex Forte) in 7 days for the 1st week, then my cough getting better and have no plhem. The next 3 weeks i have slight cough but no plgem so i decided not to take any medicine. Now I started taking carbocistine and amoxyciciline because my cough is getting worse again with phlem. Can I continue using carbocistine and amoxiciline? thank u

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your doubts

I can understand your concern. In most of respiratory infections antibiotics are not required because they heal spontaneously or by symptomatic treatment. But if cough occurs with sputum or infection complicates then treatment with antibiotics is needed. You have already started taking Amoxicilline and Carbocistine because the cough was getting worse. In such case you should now complete the course of antibiotics.

As per guidelines the antibiotics should be continued for at least 5-7 days depending upon the infection and clinical symptoms. Continue to complete your antibiotic therapy and visit your doctor if symptoms become worse.
