Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm experiencing a sharp pain in my rib on the left side. It comes and goes. For almost a week now. I did have a small panic attack about four days ago. Is this any way related to anxiety? Because I do have anxiety. I'm not sure if it could be that though.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Anxiety is nothing but inner state of turmoil due to some anticipated fear or danger. It can also present with chocking sensation in throat, tightness of chest or even chest pain apart from classical symptoms of anxiety. You had panic attack four days ago so the chest pain could be related to anxiety and this need evaluation. Please get your ECG done to rule out any cardiac cause of chest pain. An Chest X ray can help to find out any pulmonary cause of chest pain. If every thing comes normal then most likely cause of your symptoms is anxiety.
Please consult a psychiatrist for proper evaluation of your symptoms and help. In such symptoms medicines like Propranolol or even low dose benzodiazepines can help to reduce the symptoms. For persistent symptoms medicines like SSRIs can help. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these medicines.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
