Hi there. I m 18 days late for my period. I m 30 years old nothing has changed in my life, me and my partner have not been using any protection for the last 2 years. I did a pregnancy test yesterday which came back negative. I have cramps in my stomach..I feel like I will come on my period. I ve been reading on the internet the symptoms also sound like thyroid but does this make your period late and stop suddenly? I ve always had a period every month couple of days late here and there..I ve made an emergency appointment with my doctor.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It is the most common thyroid disorder. The symptoms of hypothyroidism vary widely - some people have no symptoms while others have dramatic symptoms.
Women with hypothyroidism often have menstrual cycle irregularities. It can range from absent or infrequent periods to very frequent and heavy flow. Menstrual irregularities can make it difficult to conceive. Also, pregnant women with hypothyroidism have an increased risk for miscarriage during early pregnancy. Treatment of hypothyroidism can decrease these risks.
It would be advisable your blood tested thyroid profile - FT3, FT4 and TSH levels, and consult doctor with the report for evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
