Can Arthritis Medication Cause Elevated Liver Enzymes?

Hi DOctor, My sister is suffering with Rhumatiod arthritis and was in medication from past 1 month, yesterday she was down with fever with shivering and vomiting, so we took her to hospital where LFT test is done along with others tests been conducted..surprisingly all the tests shows different analysis from the month before test, Her hemoglobin decreased from 10.8 to 9.5; expecially her LFT shows SGPT-74, SGOT-72, Biluribib-1.1, Globulin-3.5 and more important Alkaline phosphate-213.Iam quiet cocerned for her, I have two queries; Is it due to the medication she is taking for arthritis? DO we need to change a Doctor?? Pls help

hi.
thanks for posting query at HCM.
firstly, the liver enzymes level is NOT very concerning.

Usually ALT or AST values higher than "two times the upper normal limit", is considered abnormal ( in some countries, ALT or AST values of more than 100 are considered abnormal).
Value of AST or ALT greater than 85 or above maybe investigated further.

secondly, it maybe due to side effect of the medication.

you should notify your treating physician about the lab results. The doc may advise accordingly.

wish your sis good n sound health
regards
Dr Tayyab Malik
