Can Atopic Dermatitis In A Child Be Treated Permanently?
Dear Doctor, My grandson, now 8 years old, has been having atopic dermatitis (as diagnosed by two Dermatologists) for the past 3 years. It started at the folds of elbow and spread to the skin folds at knees. There is relief after using medicines prescribed. But reappears after a while. Could there be a lasting cure? Thanks
Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of atopic dermatitis, well this is very common problem and mainly due to hormonal changes , stress , systemic conditions, poor immunity of body, oily skin and excessive exposure to sun. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to wash affetcted area with wash containing benzoyl peroxide then apply cream containing azelaic acid which is safe and very effective. Exfoliate your skin with non comedogenic exfoliant once a week to remove dead skin. If condition doesn't get better in a month then consult dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment . Doctor may prescribe tretinoin ointment and antibiotic like clindamycin. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables also drink plenty of water. Apply vitamin E before going to bed to fine texture of skin.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
