Can Back Pain Cause Positive Result For Leukocytes And Negative For Nitrates?

Having lower back pain. Was treated with Macrobid for seven days due to uti. Lower back pain began on the day of my last two antibiotics. Took an at Home uti test. Was positive for leukocytes but negative for nitrates. Could the lower back pain be related and what s up with the positive/negative test results?

Hi
Thanks for your query.
Based on your query and reports
1. Backache and leucocyte count are not related.
2. Backache is not the result of urinary tract infection.
3. Backache may be dye to physical strain/ muscle spasm/ stretching of ligaments/ related to spine ( if very severe).
4. You can take analgesics for backache, if it settles then its due to muscle spasm. If it does not decrease, take a orthopedic opinion.
5. Regarding positive leukocytes, it means urinary tract is infected.Since you are still positive for leucocytes, you are still having infection and this needs change of antibiotics after culture sensitivity for urine
Hope this helps
