Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently taking a BEG Nasal Spray after sending in a nasal swab. I have had some dizziness prior to the testing and wondering if the bacteria in my nose was causing the dizziness. I have been taking it for a week and my head is very stuffy. How would I know if the bacteria has become systemic? Should I be taking an oral antibiotic with the spray?

Hello, Welcome to HCM, BEG Nasal Spray is an effective way to eradicate colonizations of the organism in the sinus cavity. BEG Nasal Spray is used to treat patients susceptible to recurrent staph infections As BEG Nasal Spray' is having two antibiotics (Bactroban, Gentamicin) and the calcium chelator EDTA. The EDTA dissolves any coating clearing the way for a direct attack by the topical antibiotics. This will give extreme relief and I donot think you require oral antibiotics. Along with the nasal symptoms if you are having symptoms of systemic infection like fever, soar throat and other constitutional symptoms you may require oral antibiotics. Thank you.
