Can Being A Teetotaller Keep The Remaining Portion Of The Liver Healthy?

Hi, I have taken alchol over 35 years allthough have stopped for about 18 monthsin 2008 my Gamma Gt was 1200. In a routine Diabetic blood check the GT was 400, platlets 60. My GP has told me i must not have 1drink if I want to live. I play golf 3 times a week. Is it possible that the part of the liver that remains will stay healthy if I remain TT ?

Hi welcome to health care magic....

You are having bile duct injury so release of enzymes and there is high level of GGT...

There might be chronic liver disease associated as drinking since long time...

Investigate with serum albumin, PT, USG for rule out cirrhosis....

Avoid alcohol as it is toxic to liver and bile cabaliculi....

Drink fruit juices more...

If portal hypertension present ( spleen palpated ) , beta blocker given...

Take care

Advise : Gastroenterologist consultation for examination....
