Can Birth Control Cause Insulin Resistance And Prediabetes?
Started taking birth control for acne and possible pcos age 27. Always had heavy painful periods every month. Since taking bc pills....periods are now absent. Devoped pre diabetes age 30. A1c was at 6.0. Started metformin er 500 mg and 2 months later I had a period and my A1c dropped to 5.4. Cann taking birth control make you insulin resistant? Give you prediabetes ? And will I have tl take metformin for the rest of my life?:/
Hi, i had gone through your query and understood your concerns.
When were you diagnosed to be diabetic, A1c of 6.0 is quite normal. if this alone is cause for your diagnosis, Then stop metformin and keep in check blood sugar levels frequently. But if the diagnosis was done on higher levels of HbA1c , Fasting and Postprandial blood sugar levels, Then you need to go with metformin medication. Coming your second concern, Birth control pill dosn't give you prediabetes. PCOS is definitely concerned with diabetes. If you are obese, Then reduce around 10% immediately. which helps you in controlling PCOS and Sugar levels. Hope this guides you . Thank you.
