Can Birth Control Patch Be Taken Off And Pills Be Started?

I just switched from the birth control patch, to quasense (birth control pill form). The patch was not staying on at all, and I only used 2 weeks of the patch, but I can not deal with it constantly falling off. This is my last day of this patch, but this is only the second week of my patch cycle. So my question is, can I take the patch off right now and take the first pill today? And if I do that, will I be protected while having sex? I was on the depo shot before just switching to the patch 2 weeks ago, my doctor said then that I would be fine if I just put on the patch the day I was supposed to get my next depo shot I would remain protected. I was wondering if this pill will do the same? Or will I have to use extra forms of birth control for the first week?
