Do you recommend taking a blood thinner prior to knee replacement surgery? The replacements that are put in are they usually custom for each patient? Are MRI s usually done ahead of time in order to see exactly what condition the knee is in? thank you.

Hello,

Blood-thinning medicines should be stopped before any surgery including joint replacement. it should be stopped at least one week prior to surgery.

MRI is used to identify deformity in the knee that will help the doctor for better correction of the deformity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
