Can Bouts Of Dizziness With Rapid Heartbeat And Fatigue Indicate Anxiety Attacks?

My niece has been having what we think are panic attacks. She is 13. Her heart beats fast then she feels dizzy and then very weak and tired and has to rest to recover. All her blood work is normal. We took her to the emergency room and she had a cat scan and ekg and X-rays and all were normal. Does this sound like an anxiety attack?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks or your question. I'm glad to help.

In the absence of any EKG abnormalities, the symptoms are strongly suggestive of a panic attack.

Panic attacks are caused by a lot of factors including previous physical or emotional trauma, interpersonal conflicts, illnesses, and personality disorders.

I strongly advise that you take your niece to see a psychologist who would help her through recovery with several treatment plans including behavioral therapy and use of drugs to reduce the frequency of symptoms.

I hope your niece gets better soon.

Best wishes.
