Can Camel Bite Cause Rabies?

I was bitten by a camel in Egypt through two layers of clothing. The clothing did not tear and there are no holes, but there are two puncture wounds on my skin from the teeth. Immediately after the bite I could not feel any saliva on my clothing. Do I need to worry about rabies?

Hello.
Thankyou for contacting HCM.

As the continuity of your skin is broken at the point of camel bite so there are chances of infection of the wound.
I would recommend you consult your local physician to check out for any signs of infection and for workup against tetanus. As for rabies it can be transmitted through the camel bite IF the camel was itself infected....so would like to rule that out too.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns.
Wishing you good health.
