Can Cardiovascular Exercise Cause A Stroke Now?

I am a 47 year old female with no other health conditions except that 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a dissected carotid artery. I was hospitalized and put on 6 months Warfarin. I have been a runner for 10 years and have just started back on my exercise routine. When I run or do any cardiovascular exercise my heart rate goes much higher than it used to. (160 s when it was in the 140 s before) I have a pretty low resting HR, in the 40 s or 50 s. Could this do any harm to the dissected artery which is still healing? And am I at risk of stroke by doing cardio now? My doctor said that I could, but I m still nervous to continue my exercise routine.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

I agree with your doctor that physical exercise doesn't do any harm at your dissected artery. Speaking of stroke in general physical exercise reduces the risk of stroke as it does with any ischemic vascular disease, so it is beneficial for you.
The only thing that you should keep in mind is that Warfarin is a blood thinner and in case of a traumatic event you are at a higher risk of bleeding so you should avoid sports involving physical contact or risk of other traumatic injury. Running or cardiovascular exercise are no such sports though so you can keep doing them.
The increase in your heart rate I suppose is due to coming after a period of physical inactivity and extra stress, it will stabilize with time.

I hope to have been of help.

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist Niraj Modi's  Response
in your kind of case it's not possible that due to exercise some body gets stroke, but here one thing you need to understand start exercise on a gradual way. And slowly with time you can increase the time of walking running or any other exercise. This way it will not trouble in terms of high heart rate after exercise and all. This is also called as cardiac conditioning. But still if u have any other question or problem with your work out check with your cardiologist or physical therapist. Take care
