Can Chewing Tobacco Increase Mouth Ulcers?

I have an ulcer on my tongue (back-left side). I'm also a tobacco user. I'm starting to treat the ulcer with a mixture of salt and water, which i spread on the ulcer. I was just wondering if a few dips of chewing tobacco on the opposite side of the mouth per day would make it cancerous? or disturb the healing process?

Hello,

You have a history of tobacco chewing. Your ulcer may turn into cancer. It can lead to irritation and squamous cell carcinoma. You should go for a biopsy of that ulcer. Avoid tobacco from now onward.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hardik Sanghvi
