Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi My baby's DOB is 25-06-2013, and today my baby was taken for her first vaccination of OPV , HEP B, BCG. I was having a chat with the doctor while the other doctor gave her the OPV dose, which I missed to see.
However we are sure that the does of HEP B and BCG was given to her.
My question is can we give her the OPV dose once again to be sure of. Will there be any side effects of it or will it be safe.
OPV is a safe vaccine. There will not be any problem if a baby is given a additional dose of OPV. Just stick to the normal schedule. Try to give IPV which is a injectable vaccine and prevents even the rare complications of OPV.
This is normally given at the age of 6, 10, 14 weeks along with DPT etc. Even combination vaccines containing all these together are also available.
Continue to ask further queries. Hope this helps. Take care.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vidya KR's Response
Hi, Thanks for using HCM
As such there are no side effects by giving OPV once again, but you need not have to worry for that, again in pulse polio program and in next vaccination day your baby will receive more doses of it.
Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.

Can Child Be Given Double Dose Of OPV Vaccine?
Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. As you told, the another doctor has given the OPV drops. Once the dose is given by the doctor, there is no need to give another dose of OPV for your confirmation. OPV is usually safe and the side effects are rare. At present, there is no need to give another dose of OPV at present. You can take the remaining doses of OPV at the age of 6, 10, and 14 weeks as per the schedule. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.
