Can Cholesterol Levels Be Lowered By Diet And Exercises?
I m 58, female, and overweight by roughly 60 lbs. My HDL number is 66 and my LDL number is 162. My doctor told me I had a cholesterol number of 245 and that number should be below 200. He wants to put me on lipitor for one month, then come back for another blood test. I am highly concerned about my LDL number of 162. Isn t there another way to get this number lower than 130 other than taking Lipitor? Can I naturally reduce this number by diet and exercise?
Yes dear..It is recommended that for dyslipidemia that is increased level of cholesterol or LDL or triglycerides initial management is by regular exercise and dietary restrictions . And after 6 months get your lipid level checked again and if it is still increased then it's an indication of starting lipid lowering agent. So in my opinion you start brisk walk for 30 minutes daily and avoid saturated fat in diet.take diet rich in fruits and vegetables . Get your thyroid profile checked as this can also cause dyslipidemia . Maintain your BMI less than 25 . Hope this will help.
