Can Cirrhosis Of The Liver Be Treated Completely In A Hemochromatosis Patient?

Approx 7 to 8 yrs ago I was diagnosed with hemochromatosis (I received a gene from each parent) and cirrhosis of the liver had begun. However, my hematologist told me they caught it in time and with 10 to 12 phlebotomies, they were able to back the cirrhosis out and I no longer had cirrhosis; however, I just recently got a new hematologist and he told me that you could not back out the cirrhosis - only stop it from progressing. My iron level remained at 10% and has just recently reached 21%. I am confused and do not know which doctor was correct - it is a renowned medical college and all my doctors are under its umbrella. Can you help me - I have never drank alcohol (I did have a grandfather and younger brother, both of who were alcoholics, to die from this disease at a relatively young age.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Liver cirrhosis is irreversible and no cure is available. Hemochromatosis itself is cause of liver cirrhosis. Process can be slowed down but can not be reversed.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
