Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Coffee Be Consumed Before A Myocardial Perfusion?
My name is Patrick Allard. I am to go for a myocardial perfusion test tomorrow morning at 7:15 am however I messed up and had a cup of coffee this afternoon, I completely forgot I was not to have any caffeine 24 hours before my appointment. should I still go for the test or make a new appointment Thanks Pat Allard YYYY@YYYY
Myocardial stress perfusion cardio magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is state of the art in the diagnosis of myocardial ischemia.
The influence of caffeine on myocardial blood volume (MBV) occurs through the blockade of adenosine receptors masking the adenosine-induced vasodilatation and potentially diminish the sensitivity to detect perfusion defects.

Can Coffee Be Consumed Before A Myocardial Perfusion?
Hi, Myocardial stress perfusion cardio magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is state of the art in the diagnosis of myocardial ischemia. The influence of caffeine on myocardial blood volume (MBV) occurs through the blockade of adenosine receptors masking the adenosine-induced vasodilatation and potentially diminish the sensitivity to detect perfusion defects. Moreover, caffeine increases sympathetic nerve activity, inducing capillary de-recruitment, which decreases myocardial perfusion reserve. Hence, caffeine intake before adenosine stresses myocardial perfusion imaging may cause false negative findings. It would be advisable for you to take another appointment and follow instructions strictly so that results will be proper. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
