Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Combination Of Tagamet And Zantac Be Taken For Chronic PUD?
I HAVE A HISTORY OF PUD AND HAD A BLEEDING ULCER THAT WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY A PT. OF 6.7 WHEN I WAS ON COUMADIN, WHICH IAM NO LONGER ON. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW TO BETTER PREVENT ANY RECURRENCE OR PROBLEMS WITH CHRONIC PUD, CAN I TAKE A COMBINATION OF TAGAMET AND ZANTAC OR SOME COMBINATION OF AN H2 BLOCKER AND A PPI, ETC?
Based on the history you have shared, your peptic ulcer disease is old and you should take H2 blocker or any Proton pump inhibitor off and on. The bleeding you have was probably the coagulopathy because of medicine you were taking. Yes, you can take Zantac or any easily available PPI for this issue plus avoid spicy and oily food.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
