Can Condensed/callused Skin On The Knuckle Be Removed Non-surgically?

Hi i have a friend who has an old injury on his middle knuckle. How he got it was by punching a cement wall really really hard and then it swelled. When the swelling was going on he tried to bite it to make the swelling go down but that only toughened up the skin and the swollen point became impervious to pain, but also it created a permanent callus over the swelling. This happened in 2010. There isn t anything wrong with the bone no fractures. Although he does continue to punch things really hard cause it doesn t hurt. Its just the condensed skin? healed and healed over and over again? I don t know what to call it. Anyway he wants the knuckle to go back down to normal size without surgery. Can i have the name of this condition? And how to possibly treat it?

Hi,

It is called callosity. Do not worry. It is a benign condition characterised by thick skin. Keratolytic oint containing salicylic acid 12% would improve the condition. Apply salicylic acid 12% oint on the affected skin at night. Keep it overnight. Apply vitamin E cream in the morning. I think, you might get good result after few days or few weeks.

Hope this helps.
