Can Cortisone Injection In Hip Causes Severe Itching In Hands And Legs?

I had two cortisone injections into each hip Thursday. Today, Saturday, I started having intense itching in my hands. I luckily had some anti-itch cream and used that and got some relief. Then tonight when I got into the bathtub by feet started itching so badly that I had to exit the tub and use the anti-itch cream on my feet. The itching in both hands and feet causes extreme redness but I m sure most of that is from my frantic itching. Could all this itching be caused by the cortisone injections and if so will it eventually abate?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Yes,this itching and redness might be due to allergic reaction of the cortisone injection into the joints.

You can check up your blood counts,ESR to rule out any infection of the skin.

The treatment you are taking anti itching cream or lotions must be continued until we find the exact cause behind that.

Consult dermatologist for this itching issue.

Regards,
