Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I herniated my disk at S1 L5. I have no pain but numbness in my foot and can not stand on my toes on that foot. Its been 2.5 weeks and I had a pain specialist recommend cortisone shots. Is that something to really consider or should I ride it out for a few weeks and see if the feeling comes back
hello welcome to hcm well cortisone injections are given in epidural region to releive surrounding inflammation n this procedure is also called as EPIDURAL BLOCK.... it will certainly provide relief from the pain you are suffering from BUT ONLY FOR A LIMITED DURATION and its not a good option to get repeated epidural blocks to get relief from pain... a more natural way to get relief from pain is to LEARN N DO SPINAL EXERCISES FOR STRENGHTHENING OF YOUR BACK MUSCLES,it will also do a lot in providing long term relief and if you commit yourself to do these exercises regularly for long term then it will do heavens good to your back problem....you can visit a physiotherapist who will make you learn the spinal exercises you need.... regards hcm
