Can Cough, Mild Cold And Diarrhea Result In Mucus Discharge From Bowels?

i have an odd question and it is not something i have seen in my schooling or breif time in a pediatric center. my son came crying to me tonight saying he had had an accident in his pants. very upset i took off his bottoms carefully expecting what you would expect to find but found nothing in his pants but clear mucous. i do know that the stools i have seen (from lack of flushing...wipes own bum) have been very soft on the border and sometimes diarrhea and an almost plant to frootloop green color. and it has been this way for a couple weeks. i figured a virus since he has had a cough and mild sniffles occasionally. but he spends half his time with his father so i'm not sure what goes on there........either way what could this be and should i be worried he hasn't complained of anything lately but did have stomach cramping last week i just thought he didnt want to eat what was made for dinner.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
Mucus is seen in stools in children with diarrhea or any injury, ulcer, colitis in the rectal or colonic region.
If the child is having loose stools, the cause is diarrhea and accidents of bowel may be seen in this situation.
Consult the doctor for clinical assessment.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
