Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking cyclobenzaprine and looking for alternative following back surgery. The Cyclo gives me massive amounts of flem in my throat and causes my anxiety to go bad since it seems to affect my breathing. It looks like zanaflex may be one that would be different. My dr will change but wanted to check for what he might switch me to.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerve impulses and pain sensations that are sent to your brain. Hence, it is used to treat skeletal muscle conditions such as pain or injury along with rest and physical therapy. Commonly reported side effects of cyclobenzaprine include: drowsiness and xerostomia (dryness of oral cavity). Other side effects include: fatigue. It does not per say cause anxiety. Zanaflex contains 'tizanidine', and works similar to cyclobenzaprine, but is a short-acting muscle relaxer. It is used to treat spasticity by temporarily relaxing muscle tone. Kindly consult your doctor and discuss regarding the side effects and take medications which would be recommended and that suits you. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S. MBBS., MD.
