Can Cysts On The Hip Joint Cause Infection?

Can a cyst in my left hip joint cause infection and lead to symptoms such as polymyalgia. I have had the cyst for a least a year ; when I was due to have the hip operation - the cyst was not noted at the time , but my CRP blood count got to 288 and is now being managed with prednisone. I have yet to have my hip operation. Thanks , Nigel.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to a subcondral cyst.
A subchondral cyst is a fluid-filled space inside a joint that extends from one of the bones that forms the joint.
This cysts can get infected.
In this case, antibiotics are needed to treat the infection.
I suggest to consult an orthopedist for further evaluation.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
