Can Degenerative Disc Disease Be Treated With Surgery?

I have degenerative disc disease in three of my lumbar discs. My orthopedic surgeon told me to do McKenzie s exercises but that just hurts worse. I have been a RN for 27 years and I say that usually surgery is indicated for degenerative disc disease. I also am a Licensed Massage Therapist. What say you?
