Can Delay In Taking Second Dose Of Postinor-2 Tablet Affect Its Efficacy?

hi, I took the first pill of postinor 2 & consumed the second pill 17 hours after the first (as I understand that have to consume the second pill after 12 hours) meaning that late 4 hours. Is it still ok? Or there is a possibility that I will get pregnant?

Thanks for writing to HCM.
I understand your concern for delay in consuming 2nd dose of Postinor 2.
Postinor 2 is an emergency contraceptive pill. It has two doses of tablets that needs to be taken 12 hours apart, well within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
If you have taken first dose early and second dose is about 5 hours late, it should be alright and should offer protection against pregnancy.
Now, you should get withdrawal bleeding within 3 weeks of taking of first pill (majority would get bleeding by 1 week of taking the pill).
In case this doesn't happen, then you need to seek medical help immediately as there is a possibility of failure of drug to act and you could be pregnant.
