Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 84. For the past 2 years she has been hearing voices at night when she goes to bed. The voices are ususally a man and woman having a conversation with each other, arguing and cursing. She has been to a neuroligist and she has normal for her age dementia. What could be going on? This is scary for her and for her family.
From your description it sounds like your mother has dementia with Lewy bodies which is a form of dementia with hallucinations. This is a common form of dementia and is frequently seen in patients with Parkinson's disease. If these hallucinations cause her distress then she may benefit from medication that may reduce these hallucinations.
I hope this answers your question. if you have any further questions please contact us again.
