How Can Brain Shrinkage Be Treated?

My 78 year old step father has been diagnosed with severe shrinkage of the brain, cerebral I think, Doctors have no idea what is causing this as he does not drink and definitely does not have dementia or alzheimers, he had a stroke 6-12 mths ago, though he did not know at the time, Doctors found this out when they performed an MRI.... any ideas ?

Hi,

The doctors have very good idea about what is happening. This is due to age related atropthy of the brain which is a normal wear and tear phenomenon. Also, as you said, he had an ischemic stroke that is also a trigger for atrophy, a very simple thing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
