General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Any illness be it viral infection or bacteria can lead to hair loss. Our body recognize the infection as a period of acute stress which pushes the hair follicles into resting phase. This causes disruption in regular hair shedding and regrowth pattern as the follicles are in resting stage of cell cycle. The hair thinning or loss after illness is called as telogen effluvium, it is not an unusual to witness the process in recovery phase. The hair grow back normally after few months on it's own.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
