Can Diabetes Cause Vision Loss?

My family doctor says I have diabetes (I m 71 years old, 6 tall & weigh 342 lbs. I take 500 mg. of Metformin every morning. My blood glucose &A1C are checked every 4 months by my family M.D. My fasting blood glucose values have been in the range of 100 (80 - 120) and the A1 C has been in the fives. How does diabetes cause blindness? I know I really need to lose about 100 - 150 lbs. I have lost weight in the past but it seems more difficult now. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You are diabetic so your blood sugar will be high and which cause obstruction of microcapillaries in eyes, kidney and nerves. This result in blindness, renal diseases, and burning sensation in feet. So it is better to have low sugar and lipid diet, regular daily excercise and walk for 30 minutes. Maintain your sugar level normal by medcines. Get annual eye and kidney check up.
