Can Diabetes Delay Healing Of Ringworm Infection On Upper Body?
Hello, I recently returned from a vacation in the Caribbean and I have a breakout of ringworm infection all over my torso area and back. I have been using the Lamisil cream for a week now, it seems to be clearing up but I'm still seeing new lesions. I am a type 2 diabetic. is this a reason that it's not clearing up? should I see my doctor?
Diabetes is a predisposing condition for multiple skin related problems and ring worm infection is one of it. But it can be effectively treated with proper management. Lamisil is the correct medicine for treatment of ringworm. It is to be used for 2-3 weeks as required twice daily. If the lesions don't clear up in two weeks then I suggest you consult your local dermatologist as you may require oral anti fungal drugs along with topical antifungal drugs after proper clinical evaluation. Other precautions may include: maintaining good personal hygiene don't share any personal use items like clothes, towels etc with anybody as this disease is contagious. In the meantime good glycemic control is key to quick recovery.
I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good health.
