Can Diabetic Medicines Be Stopped Once Sugar Levels Are Normal?
my sugar levels in 2008, were to be 200/1+(fasting) and 350/2+(pp). i had taken alternative medicine for 9 months from a scientist in bangalore, india and stopped totally. for the past 2.5 years sugar levels are normal without any diet control and without. can i conclude that now i am not diabetic ? otherwise how many years i have to observe further to conclude that i am not diabetic now ?
Hello, your story sounds a little strange. Since you had a 200mg% fasting glucose back then and a 350 post-prandial glucose level, you had diabetes. Diabetes can under certain circumstances "disappear" particularly if you lost body weight and exercised regularly. Also were the 200 and 350 values on the course of an illness or while on treatment for any disease? Illnesses affect blood sugar levels and patients may appear to be diabetic. Certain drugs do so too. I would suggest an oral glucose tolerance test. If the test is negative for diabetes I would suggest yearly measurements of fasting glucose. It is possible that you will develop overt diabetes some day in the future.
