Can Displacement Of Screws In The Reconstructed Foot Cause Infection And Pain?

Hi. I am 63yrs old and 4 yrs ago I had a total foot reconstruction with screws and plates put in. I had a fall on my foot a week ago, and today it is swollen, red, tingling and I m in agony. Is it possible that I may have dislodged a screw which is causing and infection the redness and pain ?

Hello,

I don't think that redness, pain and swelling may be related to screw dislocation. It can be related to trauma and injury .
You may need to do a x-ray of the limb to check for fractures if there is any or if the pain and swelling originates just from soft tissues around the bone.
Meanwhile take any antinflammatory drugs such advil or acetaminophen for pain and swelling.
Keep the limb elevated and at rest as much as possible.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
