My husband was admitted to a hospital over the weekend after having fainted in church Sunday morning and going through the ER. His blood pressure was abnormally high for him-he suffers from high blood pressure, is diabetic, had a right nephrectomy and more. Among other things, at discharge, they changed one of his medications, Metoprolol ER Succinate 100 mg 2x daily to METOPROLOL TARTRATE 100 mg 2x daily. In two days, he has started to experience dizziness, lethargy, forgetfulness, mood swings. The doctor who prescribed the change is staff doctor at the hospital and we are not scheduled to meet with her again until next Monday. Should I just go ahead and switch him back to the Succinate now? Oh, I need to mention - he was on this drug a couple of years ago and we had to switch him.
