Hello, welcome to HCM,
In my own practice, I have always preferred to have patients try lifestyle modification such as diet and exercise before starting medication. In many cases, when people are very committed to doing so, lifestyle modifications are enough to bring blood sugar down into a normal range.
I don't know what "GRBS" is - I am assuming fasting blood sugar?
210 is significantly elevated so I can certainly understand your doctor prescribing medication for this.
I think it would be good to also get a test called "Hemaglobin A-1C". This test shows what your blood sugars have been averaging over the past 2-3 months.
If you decide to go the lifestyle modification route, it would be a very good idea to get a consultation with a dietician/nutritionist. They can help you to know what food choices are best and how many calories.
To start, please eliminate all added sugars such as in sodas. Also, when eating carbohydrates, choose complex carbohydrates such as from whole, minimally processed grains rather than refined white flours.
If you are significantly
overweight, and have a high HemaglobinA1C, you may want to consider the
Metformin your doctor is prescribing while you start making the lifestyle changes.
I hope this information helps you in your decision process. Best wishes to you.
