hi thanks for your query.your husband seem to suffer from drug induced skin rash.....rarely it can lead to "Phenytoin Hypersensitivity Syndrome Presenting as Multi-System Organ Failure" Phenytoin hypersensitivity syndrome (PHS) is a reaction which typically develops within 3 weeks to three months after initiation of treatment with phenytoin.
In addition, patients may develop hepatitis and acute renal failure. IT IS ONCE FOR ALL SUGGESTED THAT YOUR HUSBAND STOPS THE OFFENDING DRUG WITH AN IMMEDIATE EFFECT. STEROIDS,ANTIHISTAMINICS CAN BE USED IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THIS RASH. MOST IMPORTANT A SUITABLE ALTERNATIVE OF VALPROIC ACID CAN BE INSTITUTED TO YOUR HUSBAND.KINDLY CONSULT YOUR NEUROLOGIST AS HIS SUBSTITUTION SHOULD BE DONE UNDER EXPERT CARE. THANK YOU.
