hi is there anything that an emergency room can do for someone who went through the Z scan at the us-mexico border crossing? I was in there too long I could feel it as it was happening and afterwards my skin feels weird tingly all over almost like a sunburn but not quite . headache ,slight nausea but not much and and a very uncomfortable sensation especially in my cheek scalp and jaw. I m very wiped out now it s been about 23 hours since it occurred . Not sure what is the procedure for too much x-ray or gamma radiation. I only found out after I went through and I m reading up on it. Thank you
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
First of all no need to worry much for radiation exposure. So no need to visit emergency room because there is no specific treatment for radiation exposure. The symptoms you are having are very common with prolonged radiation exposure. Treatment is only symptomatic like drinking plenty of fluids orally, taking more fruits (antioxidants), painkiller like paracetamol etc. Usually symptoms subside in 1-2 days. More important is to prevent future radiation exposure in next 1-2 months. Repeated radiation exposure is more harmful.
Hope I have answered your query.
