Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I would like to ask what are the probable causes (and treatment) for stomach pain. My symptoms may be due to excessive alcohol intake 3 nights before. But I am alarmed that it has not passed. The intensity, on a scale of 1-10, is about 5. It drops to a 2 after a meal but runs from 5 to 7 after an hour or so from the food intake. Could it be a bruised stomach lining? or a toxic liver from the alcohol that is causing this? I am 24 years old, female, oriental. Please advise.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Classical history of pain in abdomen that reduces on taking meal but increases after an hour after intake of alcohol is due to the following reasons: Duodenal ulcer being the commonest. I would advise you the following: Get an upper GI Endoscopy done at the earliest. Get started on a PPI like Omeprazole. Antacids to be taken every three hours. Soft bland diet. Reduce the stress and anxiety as these increase the acidity related problems. Follow the further management as per the reports and clinical evaluation by a Gastroenterologist.
