Can Excessive Use Of Hairsprays Cause Impacted Sinuses?
Can excessive use of hairsprays actually cause a build up of adhesives in your sinuses? My 77 year old female neighbor just had her impacted sinuses excavated and the doc said it was like cement. Pathology showed no infections. Breathing is labored...lots of coughing...aesthma meds were given....no relief. Going to a respiratory specialist Wednesday...going to alert him/her about the excessive use of hairspray...after years of excessive use seems like the adhesives in hairspray could have built up the cement they are seeing. ?
Hair sprays can cause sinus symptoms such as sneezing, coughing and nasal congestion. It can also cause a skin rash, itching of the eyes and watery eyes.
If she was experiencing sinus symptoms secondary to the spray then it could be one of the causes of the build-up, the spray itself would not build up.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
