Can Exposure To Javex Bleach Cause Blurry Vision?

I am experiencing blurry vision ... I was cleaning using a javex and water spray ... don t think I got any in my eyes, but my vision became hazy shortly after ... I wear daily contact lenses and took them out ... I flushed my eyes with water but only briefly and put new contacts in. I ve taken the new lenses out now too... they seemed very dry. My hazy or blurred vision began about 7 or 8 hours ago. I was swimming in a salt water pool this morning, too, with my yese open under water. I haven t done that before. Beyond a little dryness my eyes feel fine and I don t have a headache or anything. I m thinking if I close my eyes and go to sleep it ll all be fine in the morning, but I d sure appreciate any advice or insight you can give me. Vision is a beautiful gift! Thank You. Lisa

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The cause of blurry vision and dry eyes seem to be osmotic pressure changes following exposure to salt water swimming. As there is no exposure to Javex bleach, I do not think about its causative role in this regard. My guidelines at present:
- Splashing of both eyes with cold water for 5 minutes each every 4 hours
- Do not wear contact lens for this night
- Avoid exposure to atmospheric pollen, sun rays
- Avoid constant straining at computer, mobile or laptop
- Drink more liquids to maintain hydration

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
