Can Fever, Chills, Cough, Fluid Filled Feeling In The Lungs Indicate Pneumonia?

Hi- I have had fever and chills this week, mostly gone now except at the end of the day. I had a hard cough Monday that has now progressed to a more phlemy cough, but my concern is I feel fluid in my lungs, mostly at the bottom of my right lung, in the back. My husband said he could feel it too when I took a deep breath. Should I assume this is serious like pneumonia? I am 52, thin healthy, runner, non smoker.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if fever, chills, cough, and a feeling of fluid in the lungs indicate pneumonia which is because of viral infection to your body and impaired immunity of your body. It could be mono but symptoms are more of viral infection. The symptoms can also occur due to pneumonia , Doctor may order sputum test , chest x-ray or blood test . I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. You should take combination of amoxiclav along with levocetrizine. Do warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day with lukewarm water. Take diet rich in fruits rich in vitamin C as it will boost his immunity. Avoid giving cold beverages. Keep him sipping lukewarm water whole day. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start proper course of antibiotics. Steam inhalation is another treatment option for resolving it.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
