Can Gatorade Increase Blood Sugar Level?
my boyfriend, 66 yrs old. diabetic. has been basicly sleeping since friday afternoon. not eating. doesnt want to even sit up let alone get up. barely will talk, will point to what he wants. i just got at his place last night. he has been drinking gatorade, but now his sugar is 251. refuses to go to hosp. says call dr in morning. should i push going to hosp? or ok to wait till the morn for his dr? im having him drink water now. he did eat half banana and little applesauce

Gatorade is a energy drink and of-course it increases sugar level in a diabetic patient. 251 sugar level is much high and give him his anti diabetic medication and call his doctor explaining the situation. If he is feeling sleepy and is not dis oriented, you can wait till morning.

It is possible that he may have an infection. Diabetics may not present with the typical symptoms of infection such as fever because their body is not able to mount an immune response to infection.
It would be best for him to visit a doctor as soon as he can for assessment.
This would include history of relevant symptoms, examination, urine tests and blood tests to check for infection.
He may also need to take fluids because he may be dehydrated. If he is unable to do this orally, he may need an iv.
