Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Generic Celebrex Be Taken In Place Of Etodolac?
Is the generic for Celebrex as good and safe ?? I ve been on Etodolac for about 15 year or so; 400mg twice a day. A nurse practitioner said that s not good to be on it for so long a time. And said we could maybe try Celebrex. What s your opinion.?? Thank you.
Etodolac is an NSAID, celebrex is also an NSAID but it does not affect the stomach as much as etodolac and other non specific NSAIDs (eg ibuprofen, naproxen, voltaren). Etodolac and other non specific NSAIDs, because of the effect on the stomach, can cause ulcers. All NSAIDs, if used in the long term, can affect the heart and increase the risk of heart disease. This is the reason that they should not be used for the long term.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
