Can Generic Levothyroxine Cause Hair Loss?

I am experiencing quite a bit of hair loss. I changed from Synthroid to levothyroxine. I was on Synthroid 88 mcg and was changed to levothyroxine 100 mcg. I had requested to go generic because of the cost. I also take armor thyroid 15 mg. Would the generic cause more hair loss? My recent test results came back normal.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Switching to generic Levothyroxine should not cause hair loss. However, if the thyroid hormone is not maintained at normal level, then there is possibility of hair loss. I would recommend undergoing thyroid function test to see if you are receiving adequate dose of levothyroxine.

Hope this answers your question
