Can Genital Herpes Be Transmitted Through Sexual Activities?

Hi, I recently started dating a man who revealed to me that he had genital herpes. We have not had sex yet, I really like him, but I m also concerned about getting hpv2 from him. Can I get genital herpes from him when there is no visible outbreak present? How serious is the risk for me to contract the virus from him? I don t know what to do. Thank you M. A.

Hi, I think there is always a risk of transmission of HIV 2 from an infected person even if the lesions are not active. There can be asymptomatic shedding of virus which can infect the other person. You can use a condom but it can be transferred through skin to skin contact also.
