hello doc.i was possibly exposed to hiv1/2 through unproctected vaginal intercourse/deep kissing with my new girl friend May 2010.after 3 weeks,i startd havin symptoms lik; muscle ache, weight loss, blotchy red patchs on my thigh and mouth palate, fatigue, pressure pain on bothside of my head.we both did hiv1/2 antibody at 1,2 and 4 months post exposure and it came back negativ.i also did a another antibody at 4.5 months(alone) which also is negative. Is these test conclusive, since we both tested negative ?
HIV testing for possible infection must be done as per standard protocols. The initial testing can be done after 10 days by PCR DNA or RNA analysis. This gives the viral component. The reaction of the host is known only by doing ELISA or Western blot tests. Routinely, an ELISA is done at 90 days and is negative, it is to be repeated at 6 months again. This gives the final confirmation. If you have got tested at 4.5 months then it is advisable to get it repeated at 6 months for peace of mind.
The symptoms that you describe can be of tuberculosis or any associated immune compromised status other than HIV. I suggest you consult your doctor and get examined and other tests like Chest X ray and blood tests done. If you have any disease it is best when diagnosed early and treated completely.
