Can Having Unprotected Sex While On Birth Control Pills Cause Pregnancy?
I have been on birth control pills for a month. I just recently had 2 weeks of break through bleeding before finishing the pack. Prior to that I had unprotected sex besides being on bc. For the pass three days I m dealing with lower abdominal cramps and nausea and feeling fatigue especially in the morning. I have to urinate every 10 minutes or so and its with a full bladder and also I had light pink blood when wiping. Please tell me what possibly is happening is it due to my bc?
Birth control pills contain hormones. It is very important that you take them regularly & punctually, otherwise, such confusions about pregnancy & menstrual irregularities are an expected result.
Anyway, in the current situation, you should repeat the pregnancy test after one week or go for a blood pregnancy test (which is more reliable & excludes pregnancy 100% if negative).
You should also have a pelvic ultrasound by this time to exclude pregnancy & other pelvic pathologies if no period.
Meanwhile, use barrier contraception (e.g. condoms) if you are not ready for pregnancy & wait for your period.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
