Can Headache, Stomachache, Chills And Dizziness Indicate Flu?
My husband, age 65 has psoriatic arthritis & is being treated w/ Embrel. He also takes 8 2.5 mg tablets of Methotrexate once weekly. This morning he awoke with foot pain (which is a common symptom for him) and leg pain as well. a 4 x6 area of redness appeared on his leg above the ankle & below the knee (shin area). It is warm to the touch. Symptoms: headache, stomachache, chills & dizziness. He is in bed and mostly sleeping. He has taken a pain Rx Tramadol HCL 50 mg 2 tablets, once today and probably 5-10 mg diazepam. He has warm water compresses on forehead and shin. Should we be concerned or consider these symptoms as flu ?
Probably not. Influenza is a respiratory disorder. However, you should be concerned for cellulitis, which is infection of the skin. He should have this evaluated urgently given his immunosuppressed state.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. David Hoch, Internal Medicine Specialist
